PLANT miRNAs: KEY PLAYERS IN INTER-KINGDOM AND INTRA-KINGDOM GENE REGULATION
نویسندگان
چکیده
Micro RNAs (miRNAs) are a class of 21-24 nucleotide long single stranded, endogenous, noncoding RNAs involved mainly in post transcriptional gene silencing in animals and plants. Their role in the gene regulation of plant growth and development, biotic and abiotic stress responses, methylation is revealed and much more is expected by these tiny molecules. With each passing day a new insight about miRNAs and their explicit role in signaling, plant immunity and plant pathogen interactions are accumulating to the literature. In addition, the identification of miRNAs in plants and human secretions and their role in regulating the human genes are now reported. This observation leads to the speculation of therapeutic role of secretory miRNAs of such plants which exhibits medicinal value. Further, with proven evidences of their crucial role in cross kingdom gene regulation of several human genes many diseases can be treated by mere consumption of these plant miRNAs through food. In this review we have discussed about the significant role of plant miRNA in various biological system, speculating their potential use as therapeutics giving an altogether new direction to molecular biology research on these small RNA molecules.

New Insight into Inter-kingdom Communication: Horizontal Transfer of Mobile Small RNAs
Small RNAs (sRNAs), including small interfering RNAs (siRNAs) and microRNAs (miRNAs), are conventionally regarded as critical molecular regulators of various intracellular processes. However, recent accumulating evidence indicates that sRNAs can be transferred within cells and tissues and even across species. In plants, nematodes and microbes, these mobile sRNAs can mediate inter-kingdom commun...

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are well-known key regulators of gene expression primarily at the post-transcriptional level. Plant-derived miRNAs may pass through the gastrointestinal tract, entering into the body fluid and regulate the expression of endogenous mRNAs. Camptotheca acuminata, a highly important medicinal plant known for its anti-cancer potential was selected to investigate cross-kingdom regu...
متن کاملBioinformatics Prediction and Experimental Validation of MicroRNAs Involved in Cross-Kingdom Interaction
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a class of small noncoding RNAs that act as efficient post-transcriptional regulators of gene expression. In 2012, the first cross-kingdom miRNA-based interaction had been evidenced, demonstrating that exogenous miRNAs act in a manner of mammalian functional miRNAs. Starting from this evidence, we defined the concept of cross-kingdom functional homology between plant and ...

microRNAs (miRNAs), short RNAs of 21-25 nucleotides, are implied in gene expression and regulation, in biological processes and in human pathologies including cancer. Since miRNAs of plant origin can survive digestion and cooking and enter in animal (including human) sera and tissues, their intervention in mammalian gene expression and regulation might be expected. Mouse experimental feeding, i...
متن کاملMultiple Inter-Kingdom Horizontal Gene Transfers in the Evolution of the Phosphoenolpyruvate Carboxylase Gene Family
Pepcase is a gene encoding phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase that exists in bacteria, archaea and plants, playing an important role in plant metabolism and development. Most plants have two or more pepcase genes belonging to two gene sub-families, while only one gene exists in other organisms. Previous research categorized one plant pepcase gene as plant-type pepcase (PTPC) while the other as bact...
